In an industry where designed obsolescence and disposable everything is the rule, Pagoda Studios strives to be an exception. Part of our mission is to lessen our impact on the environment, while still producing beautiful designs. To us, thinking green is not simply an afterthought – It is an integral part of our design process, our day-to-day operations, and how we plan and grow our business. We recognize it is impossible to build anything new with zero impact. Materials have to come from somewhere, and our tools need power to run. However, with some simple choices, careful planning, and a little extra work. Whenever possible, we build with renewable materials such as bamboo, Forestry Service Counsel timber products and reclaimed / recycled wood products. We also prefer to use low VOC, water based and organic finishes. Not only are these better for the natural environment, but they are safer to work with, and have in our homes. We do this for all of our original designs, and as often as possible for our commercial projects. As we grow our business and add capacity to our production workshop, we constantly examine means of reducing our carbon footprint. We currently burn our waste materials to heat our space in winter. We are looking at converting our transport vehicles to electric and bio diesel, and generating power through alternative sources. The most important means to reducing our impact, is by ensuring our products don’t end up in a landfill next year. By using high quality, durable materials and finishes, and designing our products to be sturdy and well constructed, we build each design to last several lifetimes, and stay out of the dump.
